Your Horrorgirl has been away tending to morbid business, so you may have already heard the news, but just in cases…. The Craft reboot is seeking a Transgender Latina actress for the lead role. This year’s Cannes Film Festival is serving up a good amount of genre fair. Jim Jarmusch’s The Dead Don’t Die opened up the festival, and here are some of the other highly anticipated horrors I’m eagerly awaiting the wide release of:

The new horror flick from Hereditary’s Ari Aster is giving me some serious Wicker Man vibes. I’m talking 1973 Wicker Man, not Nicholas Cage Wicker Man, and even then I’m talking all the best elements of ’73 Wicker Man. I don’t know if there will be any topless girls unexpectedly breaking out into song, but the trailer looks pretty promising anyhow. That juxtaposition of marrying eerie suspense and brightly lit, beautiful surroundings though! Pack your bags, let’s go to Sweden.
Midsommar is in theaters July 3rd.
Your HorrorGirl is presently in a hotel room somewhere Pittsburgh adjacent , and working without her trusty laptop. As a result, unable to embed the trailer but you can check out the link and watch here

Few things beat a packed theater during the opening weekend of a horror flick. I did not hear very good things about La Llorona and my expectations were fairly low. But… I was pleasantly surprised. Granted, if I had gone to see it two weeks from now without that special sort of energy, I may feel a little differently tonight. But, that’s not the case and I’d say it was a lot of fun. Parts of it felt somewhat formulaic, but the theater was filled with screams, gasps, giggles and collective sharp anticipatory intakes of air, the kind that are only audible because dozens of people are doing it in unison. And for me, that’s always been my favorite kind of horror. The stuff that makes you feel like a kid, sitting in a theater, snacks at the ready, laughing your head off with your friends at whoever jumped the highest or screamed the loudest.
The legend of La Llorona is Mexican folklore, and initially I was confused as to why the lead role was not filled by a Latina. But the storyline made it make sense, and I suppose by having the lead character not be Latina, the audience was explained the legend as the lead character was learning about it in that inevitable expositional monologue.
And now, for some spoilers. Stop here if you haven’t watched the movie yet…

Elisabeth Moss to star in Universal’s The Invisible Man reboot.
As a rule, reboots and revamps are not my favorite. There’s so much new material begging to be made and classics are classics because they fucking rule. This one does look pretty cool, though. Looks like they incorporated enough updated for 2019 elements (smart phone/smart toy terror) to make it fresh but still fun and not deviating from the original too much. What do you guys think?
Alright, goo goo mucks…. Lots of questions about the I Like Scary Movies Experience coming in! The pictures I was posting on my story are from this, Click here to get your tickets on their website. No, it’s not a haunt (no scare actors, nobody popping out to make you crap your pants. Although I did get very startled once, and jumped far enough to give my friends a good laugh). Yes, it’s super cool. Essentially an immersive art installation based on five iconic films. It’s a lot of fun even if you’re just a casual fan. I was probably the biggest horror nerd in our group, but safe to say everyone was enjoying it as much as I was. Heads up: parking around the venue at night time sucks, unless you’re lucky and score a close meter (which we miraculously managed) but the El Rey is right across the street and has $10 valet parking. Scroll down for pictures from the experience, buuuut if you’re in LA and haven’t checked it out… maybe don’t look at the pictures yet, don’t spoil it and surprise yourself when you get there. If you’re not in LA or if you’re not gonna go, orrr if you’re on the fence, then feel free to scroll down and check out some of the pics. Also putting together a video, but that will be short because I didn’t format my card and ran out of space!
